Aussie pop princess Kylie Minogue and English singer songwriter Dido were the big winners at last night’s Brits awards scooping two awards each.

The biggest losers were cartoon band Gorrilaz who, despite six nominations and opening the show with a 3-D animation that cost a reported £300,000 to produce, failed to pick up a single Brit.

But the headlines were once again grabbed by controversial garage outfit So Solid Crew who got involved in a champagne bottle throwing scuffle with boy band Westlife after dad Bryan Mcfadden was heard baiting the South London crew.

Robbie Williams continued his record-breaking Brits run picking up his 13th award – this time for Best British Male. But Williams surprised the crowd by not turning up and instead sent a recorded message.

Dido, who hit the big time after Eminem used her track Thankyou on Stan, picked up her awards for Best British Female and Best British Album.

The overwhelmed 30-year-old Londoner, virtually unknown 18 months ago, gushed thanks to her mum dad and brother Rollo of dance act Faithless.

Kylie, 33, who won Best International Female and Best International Album, wowed the crowd by appearing in a bodiced micro dress and thigh high silver boots for a performance of Can’t Get You Out Of My Head.

Elsewhere at the annual star studded Earls Court event Travis won Best British Group, So Solid Crew won Best British Video for 21 Seconds and fellow south London stars Basement Jaxx claimed the Best British Dance Act award.

Newcomers Blue and The Strokes both collected their first awards for Best British Newcomer and Best International Newcomer respectively while Shaggy won Best International Male.

Other awards went to Westlife who won Best Pop Act, Destiny’s Child who claimed the Best International Group award and S Club 7 whose Don’t Stop Movin’ won Best British Single.

RnB star Craig David, who failed to win an award last year despite a record number of nominations, again failed to pick up a Brit.

Industry legend Sting rounded off the show with a medley of hits including Everything Little Thing She Does Is Magic, Every Breath You Take, If I Ever Lose My Faith and If You Love Somebody Set Them Free.

The former Police frontman was at the awards to pick up an awared for Oustanding Contribution to the British music industry.
