LONDON’S ONLY STRAIGHT-FRIENDLY, LESBIAN & GAY COMEDY CLUB IS GETTING
BIGGER
|
Two of the country's top tv comedy talents are appearing at London's Comedy Camp
over the next few weeks. This coming Tuesday 5th June it's a camp
Irish comedian more normally seen on television than doing stand-up ... we're told it's
so big a name that we're not allowed to tell you who it is.

Comedy Camp is the creation of gay comedian Simon Happily (above), "Just as increasing numbers of straight people are happy to go to trendy gay bars,
Comedy Camp is by no means a separatist comedy club - I'm already pleasantly surprised
at the wide range of acts - lesbian, gay and straight - who have leapt at the chance
to perform there." he says. Simon himself has performed at more than 200 gigs since he
first started stand-up two years ago
and says, "It's amazing really. I've appeared at lesbian and gay comedy nights
as far afield as Edinburgh, Glasgow and Brighton yet there's nothing like it in
London. Last summer, I performed on a lesbian and gay comedy night at the ICA as
part of the Mardi Gras arts festival and it reminded me of the demand for such a
night."
Mardi Gras Extravaganza
June marks Mardi Gras – the successor to lesbian and gay pride – and
Comedy
Camp is marking the event in style with a special show leading up to
the
festival on Tuesday, 26th June. Acidic San Franciscan Scott Capurro
currently seen each week in BBC Choice's That Gay Show joins
Queen of Country Tina C to perform extended sets. Donna McPhail,
singing
comedian Mitch Benn, Dominic Frisby and 1960s Air Hostess Pam Ann (a
woman
being a man being a drag queen) are other highlights in the month of
June.
Anyone Left For July?
Simon won't confirm the entire line-up, but promised highlights include Mitch Benn on
the 12th, Clare Summerskill (a
“lesbian
Victoria Wood” BBC Radio) on 17th July, the fantastic Julia Morris (who
brought
the roof down last time she was at Comedy Camp) on 3rd July when she’ll
be
joined by the award-winning Men In Coats.
Tuesday 5th June Mystery Irish camp tv comedy star. This fantastic act is joined by one-man sketch
show
Dominic Frisby. Tuesday 12th June Not to be missed Camp Aussie Pam Ann will stewardess London’s only straight-friendly gay
comedy
club back to the 1960s, plus the magical Mandy Muden
Tuesday 19th June Top lesbian comedienne Donna McPhail plus Marian Pashley
Tuesday 26th June Controversial San Franciscan comedian and host of That Gay Show Scott Capurro and
plus Queen
of Country Tina C perform extended sets.
Reservations for all these gigs recommended 8.30 pm (doors open 7.45pm); £5 members, £7 including membership.
