Each week we'll tackle a different topic in our A to Z of Gay Health. We'll have features and advice on everything
from relationships, sexual health, mental and physical conditions and how to stay fit.
You can follow any of links provided below for more information direct from the NHS website,
or see this week's feature L: Laxatives.

Check Youre Safe To DriveLegally, if you have type 1 diabetes and you drive, you need to: - check your blood glucose no longer than 2 hours before driving
- check your blood every 2 hours if you're on a long journey
- travel with sugary snacks and snacks with long-lasting carbs, like a cereal bar or banana
If you feel your levels are low: - stop the car when it's safe
- remove the keys from the ignition
- get out of the driver's seat
- check your blood glucose and treat your hypo
- do not drive for 45 minutes after you start to feel better
ImportantYou'll also need to let the DVLA know you have diabetes using a DIBA1 or VDIAB1i form on GOV.UK. This will not stop you driving - they just need to be aware that you're on insulin. Tell the DVLA you have diabetes on GOV.UK: Diabetes and driving |
OutUK's A to Z of Gay Health continues and you can read this week's feature L: Laxatives. We have covered many subjects in this series and you can catch up with all of our Previous A to Z Features. If you want to find out more about this particular topic you can visit the Original article on the NHS website. If you are worried by any aspect of your health make sure you go and see your doctor or book an appointment at your local clinic. | ![](/images/spacer.gif) |
